Period Conversion Heritage Colour Scheme

The Challenge

Research into the building's original decoration revealed that the Victorians used far bolder colours than many modern homeowners expect. Persuading the client to embrace deep reds, rich greens, and warm ochres required careful colour sampling and mock-ups on site. Additionally, the property featured elaborate timber cornicing that needed to be picked out in contrasting tones to highlight its craftsmanship.

Our Approach

We prepared large sample boards in situ, placing them in each room at different times of day so the client could see how the heritage colours responded to natural and artificial light. Once the palette was agreed, all walls were lined and given a mist coat before receiving two full finishing coats. Cornices and ceiling roses were meticulously picked out using artist's brushes, with each element highlighted in a complementary shade to bring the moulded details to life. All woodwork was finished in a durable eggshell.

The Result

The completed maisonette is a rich, layered interior that feels authentically Victorian without being a museum piece. The deep colour palette creates warmth and intimacy, while the picked-out cornicing provides visual interest and a genuine sense of period grandeur.
