Private Members Restaurant Interior — Specialist Commercial Painting

The Challenge

The restaurant's owners had chosen an ambitious decorative scheme: deep forest green lacquered panelling in the main dining room, a hand-painted Venetian plaster effect in the bar, and a rich burgundy scheme with gilded details in the private dining suite. All three areas needed to be completed within four days to allow full curing time before reopening. The restaurant's existing ventilation system was insufficient for adequate air movement during painting of the lacquer finishes.

Our Approach

We mobilised a team of eight painters and set up temporary ventilation fans throughout the dining room to maintain adequate air flow during the two-pack lacquer application. The panelling was spray-applied using a Graco Fusion system with Teknos Futura Aqua 40 in Forest Green, achieving the deep, mirror-like finish the design required. The bar's Venetian plaster was applied by one of our specialist decorative finishes painters over two days, building up multiple thin layers of marble-fine Grassello di Calce lime plaster before burnishing to a high sheen. The private suite was hand-painted in Mylands Wine & Dine range, with gilded details applied to the mouldings using Winsor & Newton gold leaf size.

The Result

The restaurant reopened on schedule to glowing reviews, with several guests specifically commenting on the quality of the interior decoration. The lacquered panelling in the dining room has already been photographed for two interior design publications. The Venetian plaster bar has the warm, translucent quality that this finish, when properly executed, produces — a result achievable only by a highly skilled specialist.
