Townhouse Exterior Masonry and Ironwork

The Challenge

Working at height across a five-storey facade in a busy Belgravia street required careful scaffolding planning and compliance with the Grosvenor Estate's strict regulations regarding external works. The existing masonry paint had failed in several areas, with underlying render cracks allowing moisture penetration that had caused localised staining.

Our Approach

We submitted a detailed method statement to the Grosvenor Estate for approval before commencing. Scaffolding was erected in stages to maintain pedestrian access on the pavement below. All failed masonry paint was removed by scraping and wire-brushing, and render cracks were routed out and filled with a flexible repair mortar. The entire facade was treated with a fungicidal wash before receiving two coats of breathable microporous masonry paint. Ironwork was prepared using needle guns and wire brushes, primed with zinc-rich primer, and finished in traditional gloss black. The front door was given the full Belgravia treatment: stripped to bare timber, built up with five coats, and buffed to a mirror-like finish.

The Result

The completed facade meets the Grosvenor Estate's exacting standards and blends seamlessly with the terrace. The mirror-finish front door is a particular point of pride, reflecting the client's commitment to maintaining one of London's most prestigious addresses.
