Victorian Terrace Full Interior Redecoration

A four-bedroom Victorian terrace near Battersea Park was given a complete interior redecoration spanning all four floors. The owners, a young family who had recently purchased the property, wanted to move away from the previous magnolia-throughout scheme and create a characterful home using a carefully curated Farrow & Ball palette. Each room was assigned its own personality while maintaining a cohesive flow from the entrance hall up through the staircase to the top-floor bedrooms.

The Challenge

The property had not been redecorated in over a decade, and the existing paintwork showed significant wear including scuff marks, nail holes, and hairline cracks throughout. Several ceilings had developed fine crazing from building movement, and the original Victorian cornicing in the ground-floor rooms was clogged with multiple layers of old paint that obscured the crisp moulding profiles.

Our Approach

We began with comprehensive preparation across every room, filling all cracks and imperfections with flexible filler and sanding surfaces smooth. Cornicing was carefully cleaned using steam to soften old paint build-up, then hand-sanded to restore the original profiles before priming and finishing. Walls were lined where necessary to provide a perfect substrate. The Farrow & Ball palette was applied methodically, starting from the top floor and working downward to protect completed rooms. Each room received two full coats of Estate Emulsion, with all woodwork finished in complementary Estate Eggshell. We took particular care with the staircase, using a graduated palette that transitions subtly from floor to floor.

The Result

The transformed terrace is a showcase of how considered colour choices can bring a Victorian family home to life. The owners were thrilled with the graduated staircase palette, which creates a sense of journey through the house. Friends and family have remarked on how each room feels distinct yet connected, precisely the effect the client had envisioned.

We moved in to a house that felt like a blank canvas and now it genuinely feels like our home. The colour advice was invaluable, and the finish is impeccable throughout. Even the children love their bedrooms.
