Common Questions

Costs vary depending on the property size, scope of work and finish quality required. As a rough guide, a single room repaint starts from around £400, a full flat from £1,500 and a complete house from £5,000. We provide a free, detailed written quote after surveying your property.

You can request a free quote by calling us, emailing or completing the form on our website. We arrange a convenient time to survey your property, discuss your requirements and provide a detailed, itemised quotation within 48 hours of the visit.

We recommend booking two to four weeks ahead for standard projects. For large refurbishments or work timed around a house move, six to eight weeks' notice is ideal. We do accommodate shorter-notice requests when our schedule allows.

We cover all of central and prime London including Mayfair, Belgravia, Knightsbridge, Chelsea, Kensington, Notting Hill, Fulham, Hampstead and surrounding areas. If your property is within the M25, please contact us and we will confirm availability.

Yes. We carry £10 million public liability insurance and £10 million employer's liability insurance. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and Constructionline accreditations and are members of the Painting and Decorating Association.

All our painting and decorating work is covered by a five-year workmanship guarantee. If any defect attributable to our application arises within this period, we will return and rectify it at no cost to you.

We use premium brands including Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Mylands, Benjamin Moore, Dulux Trade and Edward Bulmer. The specific brand and product are selected based on the property type, surface and your personal preference.

Absolutely. Many clients source their own paint, and we are happy to work with whatever you provide. We will advise on the quantity needed including a waste allowance, and we can also source paint at competitive trade prices if preferred.

Matt has no sheen and hides surface imperfections. Eggshell has a subtle low sheen, is durable and wipeable. Satin has a gentle sheen and is common for woodwork and kitchens. Gloss is highly reflective and traditionally used on doors and skirting boards.

Preparation includes filling cracks and holes, sanding surfaces smooth, washing greasy areas, scraping loose paint, priming bare surfaces and masking adjacent features. Proper preparation accounts for roughly half of every project's time and is the foundation of a lasting finish.

Yes. We move furniture to the centre of each room, cover it with clean cotton dust sheets and protect floors with dust sheets and self-adhesive film. Everything is returned to its original position once the room is complete.

Fitted carpets are covered with self-adhesive carpet protector film, and hardwood floors are protected with cotton dust sheets. We take extra care at skirting-board edges to prevent any paint from reaching the flooring.

Yes, the majority of our projects are carried out in occupied homes. We work room by room, keep the property clean and tidy, and use low-odour paints. You will have access to bathrooms and the kitchen at all times.

A standard room takes two to three days including preparation, priming and two topcoats on walls, ceiling and woodwork. Simple wall-only repaints in good condition can be completed in a single day.

We apply a minimum of two full coats on all surfaces. Fresh plaster receives a mist coat first, and surfaces with heavy staining get a dedicated primer coat. Additional coats are applied if coverage requires it at no extra charge.

Weekend and evening work is available, particularly for commercial projects. Residential clients can also request out-of-hours scheduling for an additional fee. We will discuss the options during the quotation stage.

A mist coat is a thinned-down first coat of emulsion applied to new or freshly skimmed plaster. It soaks into the porous surface and creates a stable base for subsequent coats. Without it, paint can peel away from the plaster.

Yes. We offer a colour consultancy service where we bring sample pots and paint large test patches in your rooms. Seeing colours in the actual space — in both natural and artificial light — is the best way to make a confident decision.

Yes, ceiling painting is part of every full room redecoration. We use dedicated ceiling paints formulated for low spatter and high coverage. Ornate cornicing and ceiling roses are painted by brush to preserve their detail.

Yes. We use moisture-resistant, anti-mould paints in bathrooms and hardwearing, grease-resistant finishes in kitchens. We can also spray-paint kitchen cabinets for a factory-smooth refresh at a fraction of the cost of replacement.

Yes. We paint all types of masonry including brick, render, stucco and pebbledash. Surfaces are power-washed, repaired and primed before applying a durable masonry coating system that protects against the British weather.

Yes. We offer professional wallpaper installation and removal as standalone services or as part of a broader redecoration. Our paperhangers have experience with all paper types from standard paste-the-wall to luxury hand-printed silks.

We are familiar with conservation area regulations across London boroughs. We check the specific rules for your property, advise on permitted colours and materials, and handle any required planning consent applications on your behalf.

Yes. We have extensive experience with Grade I and Grade II listed properties. We use heritage-appropriate materials, follow conservation best practices and liaise with local authority conservation officers and Historic England as required.

Yes. Minor crack filling and surface preparation are included in all our painting quotations. Larger plaster repairs — including re-skimming, lime plastering and structural crack stabilisation — are quoted separately.

We use professional colour-matching technology to analyse existing paintwork and produce an exact match. This is particularly useful for touch-ups, feature walls and matching colours that have been discontinued.

We recommend zero-VOC, non-toxic paints certified to EN 71-3 Toy Safety Standard. Brands like Edward Bulmer, Earthborn and Little Greene produce paints that are completely safe once dry, with no harmful off-gassing.

We use high-quality low-tack masking tape and remove it at exactly the right stage of drying for a crisp edge. For the very best results, our most experienced decorators cut in freehand — a technique that produces an imperceptibly perfect line.

Yes. We paint all types of interior and exterior doors including panelled, flush, glazed and fire doors. Doors are rubbed down, primed where necessary and finished in two coats of your chosen colour and sheen for a smooth, durable result.

We plan a room-by-room sequence that maximises drying time between coats, minimises your disruption and keeps the project on schedule. Multiple painters work simultaneously on different areas so the project progresses quickly without compromising quality.

Yes. Going from dark to light requires a high-opacity primer to block the previous colour. We apply one or two coats of a quality blocking primer followed by two topcoats, ensuring complete, streak-free coverage.

Water-based (acrylic) paints dry quickly, have low odour and are easy to clean up. Oil-based (alkyd) paints take longer to dry but produce a harder finish. Modern water-based paints now match the durability of oil-based alternatives in most applications.

Peeling is almost always caused by poor preparation. We ensure surfaces are clean, dry, stable and correctly primed before applying topcoats. On exterior surfaces, we use flexible microporous coatings that move with the substrate without cracking.

Yes. We offer efficient, cost-effective landlord repaints to neutral, tenant-ready specifications. We provide fast turnarounds between tenancies, portfolio pricing for multiple properties and photographic completion reports for inventory records.

Yes. We paint offices, retail stores, restaurants, hotels, medical practices and institutional buildings. Out-of-hours working, specialist coatings and phased programmes are standard features of our commercial service.

Large projects receive a dedicated project manager, a detailed programme and regular progress updates. We scale the team size to match the timeline and coordinate with other trades if the painting is part of a wider refurbishment.

Yes. We use professional airless and HVLP spray systems for kitchen cabinets, built-in furniture, radiators, ceilings and feature walls. Spray application delivers a factory-smooth finish that is difficult to achieve by brush or roller.

Not when done properly. We seal off the spray area with polythene sheeting and masking, creating a temporary spray booth within your home. The overspray is fully contained and no paint reaches surfaces outside the work zone.

We clean up at the end of every working day and carry out a thorough final clean on project completion. Dust sheets are removed, furniture is replaced, all waste is taken away and the property is left in a pristine, ready-to-enjoy condition.

Interior painting can be done year-round provided the property is heated to a normal temperature. Exterior painting requires dry weather above 10 °C, which limits outdoor work to roughly April through October in London.

We request a 20 per cent deposit on acceptance of the quotation, with the balance due on satisfactory completion. For larger projects we offer stage payments linked to agreed milestones. We accept bank transfer, credit card and cheque.

Yes. We provide free, no-obligation site surveys and written quotations. The quote itemises every element of the work so you can see exactly what is included. There is no charge and no pressure to proceed.

We ask that fragile ornaments, valuables and personal items are removed from the rooms being painted. We handle all furniture moving and floor protection. Clearing surfaces makes our work faster and keeps your belongings safe.

It is possible but not ideal. Painting over wallpaper risks the seams showing through and the paper lifting. We strongly recommend removing the wallpaper first, preparing the walls and then painting for a long-lasting, professional result.

In practice, the terms are interchangeable in the UK. A decorator typically offers a broader range of services including wallpapering, specialist finishes and colour advice, while a painter focuses primarily on paint application. Our team offers all of these skills.

We recommend waiting at least two weeks before washing or wiping newly painted walls. This allows the paint film to fully cure and harden. After this period, most quality paints can be wiped with a damp cloth without damage.
