Decorating Cranley Gardens

Cranley Gardens is a wide and leafy late-Victorian garden terrace in South Kensington, running south from the Old Brompton Road and terminating in a private garden shared by residents. The street is bordered by impressive four-storey stucco-fronted terraces with Italianate detailing, typical of the Gunter Estate development that transformed this part of South Kensington in the 1880s and 1890s. The broad carriageway, mature street trees, and private garden combine to create one of the area's most gracious residential streets.

Cranley Gardens' large Italianate stucco properties feature elaborate cornices, pediments, and bay window stacks that require careful masking and brush technique during external repaints. The private communal garden end of the street is shaded, which can extend drying times and requires careful scheduling of exterior coating work.
