Decorating Victoria Square

Victoria Square is a handsome mid-Victorian garden square in SW1V, developed in the 1840s by Thomas Cubitt as part of his grand expansion of Pimlico, featuring stucco-fronted Italianate terraces arranged around a private central garden. The square's uniform cream-painted façades and classical pilastered doorways exemplify the high standard of speculative building that characterised Cubitt's Pimlico estate. The central communal garden, accessible to residents, is enclosed by original cast-iron railings and contributes to the square's dignified, cohesive character.

Victoria Square's stucco façades demand a rigorous preparation regime including crack repair, flexible masonry primer and high-quality smooth masonry paint, with the traditional cream or brilliant white finish requiring periodic renewal to maintain the square's signature cohesive appearance.
