Decorating Pembridge Gardens

Pembridge Gardens is one of Notting Hill's most attractive garden streets, running between Pembridge Villas and Notting Hill Gate with large stucco-fronted Victorian townhouses flanking a long, tree-lined central garden. The street was developed in the 1850s and 1860s as part of the expansion of the Pembridge Estate and has retained an exceptionally high proportion of its original architectural character. Many properties have been converted into boutique hotels or upmarket apartment buildings alongside single-family homes.

The imposing stucco facades of Pembridge Gardens require periodic full exterior redecoration, typically on a seven to ten year cycle, and the work involves detailed preparation of the cornice and moulding profiles as well as the large flat stucco panels. Mixed tenure between residential and hospitality uses means decorators must be comfortable working in occupied buildings with minimal disruption.
