Decorating Tolpuddle Street

Tolpuddle Street is a modest but characterful residential street in the Barnsbury area of Islington, running between Copenhagen Street and Penton Rise, lined with early- to mid-Victorian stock-brick terraced houses that are typical of the working and lower-middle-class housing built across inner north London in the 1840s and 1850s. The street takes its name from the Tolpuddle Martyrs, reflecting Islington's historic association with working-class political movements, and several of the original terraced cottages survive intact. The street forms part of the wider Barnsbury Conservation Area.
