Addison Avenue is one of Holland Park's grandest and most architecturally distinguished residential streets, a wide, tree-lined avenue of imposing Italianate stucco villas and substantial semi-detached houses built in the 1840s and 1850s as part of the development of the Holland Estate. The street's generous proportions, mature plane trees, and consistent run of three- and four-storey stucco-fronted villas with ornate Classical detailing make it one of the finest examples of mid-Victorian estate development in west London. Almost every property on the avenue lies within the Holland Park Conservation Area and is listed or locally listed for its architectural merit.

The stucco facades of Addison Avenue's villas are a significant maintenance commitment, requiring periodic redecoration with breathable mineral masonry paint in approved off-white or stone shades; any cracks or delamination must be repaired with lime-based mortar before painting to prevent moisture ingress behind the render. Given the listed status of several properties and the strict conservation area controls, all external colour changes require prior written consent from RBKC planning officers.
