Decorating Chepstow Crescent

Chepstow Crescent is a graceful curving street in northern Bayswater, sweeping between Pembridge Road and Ladbroke Grove on the boundary with Notting Hill, and developed predominantly in the 1850s and 1860s as part of the expanding Ladbroke Estate. The crescent is lined with substantial semi-detached and terraced stucco-fronted villas, many three or four storeys tall with columned porticoes, Italianate cornices and large sash windows that speak to the ambition of its mid-Victorian developers. It falls within the Ladbroke Conservation Area and its curving form is a distinctive element of the neighbourhood's planned townscape.
