Decorating Artesian Road

Artesian Road runs through the Pembridge area of Bayswater, lying on the boundary with Notting Hill and lined with substantial late-Victorian red-brick and terracotta townhouses of the 1880s and 1890s. The street takes its name from the artesian wells that once supplied water across this part of north Kensington, a heritage that reflects the area's Victorian-era development as a prosperous middle-class suburb. Properties here are typically four storeys over a raised ground floor, with elaborate terracotta dressings and Flemish-bond red-brick work that create a richly textured streetscape.

The red brick and terracotta façades of Artesian Road are generally left unpainted, but window frames, rendered bays, stucco bands, and rear extensions all require careful maintenance with appropriate exterior systems. Interior decorating work is substantial given the generous room heights and ornate Victorian plasterwork typical of these large family houses.
